Dune 2000 Online is a remake of the Westwood classic, free to play in the browser: no ads, no install, no account required to play against the AI.
The work behind the game
Everything is rebuilt by hand: the simulation, sprites extracted from the original files, voices, interface and website. The game runs around the clock on a server, with stats, the forum and profiles.
- Six playable houses: Atreides, Harkonnen, Ordos, Sardaukar, Fremen and Mercantile Guild.
- Campaigns against the AI, a multiplayer lobby, immersive mode and conquest.
- Unit and building sheets, comments, profiles and rankings.
- Four languages: French, English, Spanish and German.
How it is built
The code is written with the help of Cursor AI, a coding assistant. Its subscriptions have cost me hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket, on top of the server and the domain name. The game stays free and ad-free.
